Who says you have to spend an insane amount of money to build your own personal style? Have you ever just scrolled through your social media feeds and thought, “how in the hell can I afford all these amazing clothes?” I am a notorious shopper! My friends can definitely attest to that. But being fashionable does not mean you have to break the bank; it’s a matter of buying pieces that will become a staple not only in your closet but in your everyday style.
One of my favorite things to do when I go out shopping is looking at the clearance section first. Although some of the styles are “out of season”, there are a lot of simple, versatile, and economic pieces that you can add to your wardrobe without emptying out your wallet. Some of my favorite places to shop for simple and cheap styles are Old Navy, Walmart (yes, Walmart), and Target. Most of my clothes are from these retailers, mainly because your girl here isn’t about to spend $20 on a plain t-shirt. I also love to shop from “fast fashion” retailers such as Forever 21 or Charlotte Russe, always perusing the clearance and sale items online or in-store.
Building your personal style does take time. With so many influencers out there building their brands through their styles, it’s easy to want to copy a certain style. Now, developing your own sense of styles can take anywhere from weeks to months to years. It has definitely taken me a long time to feel comfortable enough to dress the way I do. Like I’ve said in the past, being plus size has its difficulties, but it’s not impossible. Finding a style that suits you and makes you feel confident is the first step to building your unique touch.
Here are some outfits that I’ve put together that are under $50! You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars, you’ll amass a collection of clothing that suits your personal style. With that being said, don’t be afraid to spend some time building yourself; your style will flourish as you build it!
